Idly’s New Shared Calendar App Caters to Modern Families

Idly, a calendar app reimagined to free modern families to live their way, is hitting app stores soon. This launch aims to shake up the productivity and shared calendar categories by putting free time, privacy and non-traditional families first.

The app is the brainchild of Laurel Wessman, a practicing physician and mom of three who felt existing productivity tools were not in line with the needs of working women. Wessman, along with several fellow physicians, pooled their expertise and resources to create a shared calendar app that catered to all kinds of families: intergenerational families, divorced families, LGBTQ+ families and more.

“The modern era isn’t really equipped to handle this huge influx of women as professionals and non-traditional families. It’s not a village anymore,” says Wessman, CEO at Idly. “Calendars to me are a statement of values. Available products were undervaluing the need for personal space. I felt this even more as a busy professional mom but everyone deserves to feel like they are worth their own space.”

The app itself works across devices, from desktop to mobile, and syncs calendars from platforms like iOS, Outlook and Google Calendar. This makes it an immediate leader in a category whose biggest competition remains an analog calendar or eraserboard. Several players have entered this category through wall-mounted devices, while Idly aims to be mobile-first for families on-the-go.

Unique features of the Idly app include seamless syncing of work, personal, school and sports calendars, as well as the ability to create a private calendar and control who can see each event in your shared account. Users can add up to 15 people to their account, making it simple to include grandparents, nannies, carpool coordinators and more, without sharing personal information. Other features of Idly include the ability to add events with voice or handwriting (desktop and tablet only), an AI assistant, Daily Forecast emails and enhanced customization.

Idly is available for $9.99 / month, or through an annual subscription of $99 / year. Available now on the Apple App Store, Google Play and the Microsoft Store, users can access a free 1-month trial that unlocks all of Idly’s features.
