Frequently asked questions
Dive deeper into Idly or troubleshoot a problem with our FAQ. If you have questions that aren’t answered here, don’t be a stranger.

- What makes Idly different from other shared calendars?
Idly seamlessly syncs your personal, work, and sports calendars across technology platforms and devices into one place. Designed for families on-the-go, Idly replaces the wall-mounted or analog calendars that can’t keep up with you. And with up to 15 users per subscription, you can get your whole community on the same page.
But you don’t have to share everything. Idly makes privacy easy with an individual calendar space where you can personalize your space and control which events sync to public calendars and which are displayed just for you.
Lastly, you can create events your way with handwritten notes and voice memos translated by Idly AI.
- How do I get started?
It’s simple! Just head to our Login page and sign up for a free 1-month trial using code “IdlyOnUs”. You’ll get every feature, including the ability to add 15 users, and your credit card won’t be charged until your trial month is complete. See how it changes your life in a month, and if you don’t want to continue, you can cancel at any time.
- Which devices can I use Idly on?
Idly is designed to be accessible across multiple technology platforms and screen sizes. We offer a mobile app that works on phones and tablets, which you can download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, and a web app that you can use in your browser on any device.
While we’ve worked hard to make Idly functional across as many browsers and device types as possible, you may encounter bugs or errors on certain older browsers or devices. If so, please contact us for assistance.
- Who can I add to my Idly account, and how do I assign them roles?
Invite anyone who is part of your family’s activities, like your spouse, children, parents, nannies, babysitters or carpool coordinators. You can add users during onboarding or later in the settings section. Added users will receive a SMS invite to log in, where they’ll have the chance to create their own calendar space, sync with external calendars and adjust privacy settings.
If you pay for the Idly subscription, you will be considered the account owner and will have full permissions to assign or reassign other users’ roles. You can have 15 people on your account and everyone you add will be part of your subscription.
Added users can be assigned as autonomous or non-autonomous. Autonomous users have all the same access as the account owner except for managing the subscription, adding users and account deletion. Non-autonomous user accounts can be logged into by the account owner. This is a great option for parents wanting an added layer of visibility for their kids’ profiles.
- Can I add my kids to my Idly account?
Yes! You can add anyone, including kids, to your Idly account. When inviting anyone under the age of 18 to Idly, their parent or legal guardian will need to attest that they are setting up the profile on behalf of their child. Kids can lock their profile by adding a pin, but account owners have the ability to “impersonate” (or log in on behalf of) their child’s profile to see their full calendar. This ensures no sensitive information is collected and that their user data isn’t sold to a third-party. For more information on legal privacy, please refer to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
- How does Idly protect my privacy?
We built multi-level settings to give every user complete control over their calendar space. Privacy settings can also be adjusted calendar-wide or by event. Not only can you decide which events sync in from and out to your external calendars, but you can determine which event details are visible to others on a user-by-user basis. Finally, you can set a pin to keep your calendar private on shared devices.
- How do I set up my calendars and control what syncs in and out?
During onboarding or later in your settings, you can connect your external calendars like Google, Apple, Outlook and SportsEngine. Once connected, you’ll be able control the visibility of incoming and outgoing events:
- “All Details” means everything about the events will be synced.
- “Unavailable” means events will show up for the time and duration that they’re scheduled, but no other identifying information will be shared.
- “Don’t Sync” means events won’t be synced between calendars. You can choose this separately for incoming or outgoing events.
If you sync events with “All Details”, you will still have the chance to change visibility to other users in your sharing settings.
- How do I create an event?
On your calendar, click the “+” icon. You can create events manually, by voice note or by handwritten note on larger devices.
You can type out event details, invite users, attach files, and more during event creation. If typing isn’t your thing, you can handwrite details with your finger, mouse or a stylus pen on tablet and desktop. You can also dictate event details with audio notes. The built-in Idly AI will translate your handwritten and voice notes into an event.
Hosting an event with a lot of attendees, including people not on Idly? You can create special events and invite external attendees to make sure everyone gets the details. External attendees will receive an email requesting an RSVP.
- Is there a subscription for Idly?
Yes. We offer two payment plans: a one-time yearly payment of $99, or monthly payments of $9.99. No matter how you pay, you will get access to all the features—including 15 users—and no ads. Use code “IdlyOnUs” for a 1-month trial when signing up for a monthly subscription on the web app, Apple and Google, or for annual subscriptions when signing up on the web app and Apple.
- What do I get with my Idly subscription?
Each subscription unlocks every Idly feature for all users—no in-app purchases to unlock more. You’ll be able to see all calendars and events on all of your devices, no matter which payment plan you choose.
- How do I change or cancel my subscription?
Go to your settings and choose “Manage Subscription”. There, you can change your payment method, switch your subscription from monthly to annual, or simply cancel your subscription. In order to delete your account, you’ll need to cancel your subscription, remove all users and disconnect any synced calendars from your account. We recommend giving your users a heads up so they can export their events first.
- How can I update my profile or change my pin and password?
In settings under “Personal Details”, you can update your information, photos or pin. If you need to reset your password, you can do that during the login process by clicking “Forgot Password.”
- How do I troubleshoot a problem or update my app?
We’re always happy to hear your feedback, especially if there’s a problem that is making Idly less than ideal to use. Please head to our contact us page to report any problems and ask for help. To update your mobile app, just go to the app store on your device and look for any available updates. If you’re using the web version of Idly in a browser, you should be automatically using the latest version.
